Lying lips

Lying lips is a 1939 in film, melodrama, race movie by Oscar Micheaux, starring Edna Mae Harris, and Robert Earl Jones (the father of James Earl Jones). Lying lips was the thirty-seventh film of Micheaux.

Sands of sacrifice

AKA Tangled Trails Corporal Jack Borden (Neal Hart), of the Northwest Mounted Police, trails the man who killed his partner to New York City. The killer is an unscrupulous promoter who is selling worthless stock in a gold mine. Borden, with the help of Blanche Hall (Gladys Hampton), locates the man in a Bowery dive, but he escapes and Borden tracks him back to Canada. Along the way, he discovers that Blanche and his sweetheart, Milly (Violet Palmer), are long-separated sisters and brings about a reconciliation.

Behind the screen

The film takes place in a movie studio. A stagehand named David (Chaplin) has a supervisor, Goliath (Campbell). Much of the film is slapstick comedy involving Chaplin manhandling large props, but other plotlines include a strike action by the stagehands, and Purviance, who is unable to become an actress, dressing as a man and becoming a stagehand. The film is set at Narkover School, where headmaster Doctor Alec Smart (Will Hay) becomes involved in the disappearance of a valuable necklace. The setting is loosely based on the works of Beachcomber (Pen name), where Narkover is a school specializing in gambling and extortion, and the headmaster is a "Dr. Smart-Allick".
